Biketoberfest was created in 1991 by the Daytona Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau. The original idea for the annual event was to give motorcycle riders one last, long ride before having to put away their bikes for the winter. Biketoberfest is usually held in mid-October (generally the weekend following Columbus Day.) It attracts nearly 125,000 motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the United States and Canada for a weekend of races, charity rides, street festivals, rallies, live music and other fun activities. Some participants in the festival arrive in Daytona Beach as early as the weekend prior to Biketoberfest and make it a week-long event. Biketoberfest includes a twelve-mile ride along a scenic route known as the Ormond Scenic Loop and Trail, and other scenic rides along A1A. Also, the Daytona International Speedway usually sponsors several motorcycle races on dates to coincide with Biketoberfest. Vendors at various venues offer everything from the latest motorcycle models to parts and accessories.

Biketoberfest events take place all over Volusia County at various locations. Admission to different events varies - it all depends on the event and location. While Biketoberfest certainly focuses on motorcycles, there are other events included in the festival that attract a lot of attention. One tradition of Biketoberfest is the Coleslaw Wrestling at Sopotnick’s Cabbage Patch in Samsula. Yes - that’s right - coleslaw wrestling! Women wrestle in coleslaw and those who have witnessed it in the past say it’s “a riot!” The local bars and clubs are also a very active part of the long Biketoberfest weekend.
